SWEEP Collection Update & New Video on Florida Closure

The City of Tampa’s Solid Waste Enhanced Environmental Program (SWEEP) collection service will be rescheduled for residents of West Crest Avenue between the Hillsborough River and Florida Avenue. The City will offer each resident a special pick up of up to 10 yards of debris once the project is complete. West Crest is scheduled to be fully restored by the end of August, barring unforeseen conditions. For more information on SWEEP, including a list of acceptable and unacceptable items, please visit

Temporary Road Closure – N Florida Ave from E Frierson Ave to W Crest Ave

Beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 16, 2022, North Florida Avenue will be closed between East Frierson Avenue and West Crest Avenue through 5 p.m. Friday, May 20, 2022, for stormwater and wastewater utility construction.

Northbound motorists on North Florida Avenue will be detoured at Osborne Avenue to Nebraska Avenue. Northbound trucks should use East MLK Jr. Boulevard. Southbound traffic on North Florida Avenue will be detoured at East Hillsborough Avenue to Nebraska Avenue. Access for businesses on North Florida Avenue will be maintained. Residents of West Crest Avenue west of North Florida Avenue should use Highland Avenue as an alternate route.

Crews Are Responding to Flooding/Erosion Caused by Rain

Between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 29, more than 1.25 inches of rain has fallen in the region. The rainfall has caused flooding and erosion in multiple locations where crews have been installing new stormwater infrastructure. David Nelson Construction has crews on site currently to shore up areas where erosion is occurring. They will be on site Saturday morning to handle additional cleanup.
