REMINDER: North Florida Avenue Closed Beginning Aug. 22

North Florida Avenue is closed from East Frierson to West Crest Avenue for at least three weeks beginning Aug. 22 for stormwater and drinking water improvements. Access to Florida Avenue businesses will be maintained.

N Florida Ave. Closed to Thru-Traffic Beginning Late August; Businesses Will Be Accessible

North Florida Avenue will be closed to thru traffic from East Hillsborough Avenue to East Osborne Avenue for at least three weeks beginning Aug. 22, 2022. This closure may extend beyond three weeks, depending on weather, underground conditions and other factors.

Northbound thru traffic on North Florida Avenue will be detoured at Osborne Avenue to Nebraska Avenue. Southbound thru traffic on North Florida Avenue will be detoured at East Hillsborough Avenue to Nebraska Avenue (see map). Two police officers will be in the area for the first few days of the closure to deter traffic from residential roads.

During this closure, access to businesses on Florida Avenue remains open; traffic to local businesses is considered local traffic. The contractor will place signs at both ends of the closure indicating that businesses are accessible.

Schedule Update – Aug. 2, 2022

City staff and members of the project team presented an update to the Old Seminole Heights Neighborhood Associations July 26, 2022. The project team explained that work is occurring in multiple locations at once in order to meet the City’s 40-month construction schedule; sequential construction would take 6-7 years to complete.

The project team also discussed the map graphic shown below and corresponding anticipated construction dates. Areas shown in purple are currently under construction. Work has recently started in the areas shown in orange, and work on Florida Avenue, shown in pink, is scheduled to begin Aug. 22. The dates shown below are subject to change due to inclement weather or other unforeseen conditions. Map showing Seminole Heights construction locations
