Work on East Hanna Ave. & Central Ave. Traffic Update
David Nelson Construction has re-arranged its construction schedule to focus on Central Avenue south of Hillsborough, Crest Avenue and the Hillsborough River outfall. The revised schedule means crews will be working on East Hanna Avenue near Seminole Heights Elementary School in spring of 2023 instead of 2022.
This change will not affect the overall schedule, but it will help the project team reduce impacts to the neighborhoods where crews are currently working, particularly near Hillsborough High School. Construction on Central Avenue is exacerbating traffic congestion near the high school which is impeding residents’ access to homes. This schedule change will help us complete work on Central before the start of the next school year, barring unforeseen conditions.
We are working with Hillsborough High and the school district on options for reducing traffic tie-ups during school drop-off and pick-up. Additionally, the contractor is working to improve traffic on Central between Louisana and Wilder to ease congestion. However, construction activity will increase on Central in coming months. If you are a parent or guardian of a student at HHS who routinely drops off or picks up a student, you must follow the rules regarding traffic flow and be as efficient as possible to avoid blocking in neighborhood residents.
