Crews have been installing 72-inch stormwater pipe on East Caracas Street to direct water from Southeast Seminole Heights underneath I-275 toward the outfall at the Hillsborough River. This portion of work is going slower than expected due to the depth of excavation and narrow construction zone.
Approximately 140 feet of 72-inch storm pipe and two stormwater inlets still need to be installed along East Caracas Street. At the current installation pace, this work should take approximately three to four weeks to complete.
Afterward, crews will check the alignment of the adjacent water main and make any necessary adjustments, which will take approximately one to two weeks to complete. Roadway restoration on Caracas is planned to begin mid- to late October, and the first lift of asphalt should be installed within four weeks.
